PART 72 – THE QUEEN’S VISIT

-So come back to our room? – Tian Liam asked.

-Wait for me some minutes, I’ll make a teapot. – Hou Lei replied. – Oh, you can bring the tray of dishes back first, I’ll go later.

-I’ll wait for you! Can’t lack your tea for a delicious meal!

He sat on a chair near the door of the kitchen. She walked around the kitchen to find the ingredients for her tea. She put them into the pot and got a cook with water on the oven. He watched each of her moves and always smiled, he could not imagine what will happen on the days she would not be here with him anymore. He promised himself not to let that day come.

-Tian Liam! – She shook him making his thoughts interrupted.

-Oh, sorry, what did you say?

-Nothing, I saw you thinking something, just want to check if you are okay.

-Have you finished?

-The tea is ready, we should come back to my room to have our dinner!

He brought the tray of food while she got the teapot with her. The chefs looked at them leaving after they disappeared, they sat around the table for their discussion.

-Do you see the Third Prince has changed much from the time Princess Hou Lei got here till now?

-Of course, he had never been in the kitchen before, but with her appearance in the palace, he has been here so many times. – Another chef replied.

-People said that Princess Hou Lei used some kind of drug on our Princes. So, even the Crown Prince fell in love with her from the very first time.

-Careful with your mouth! Don’t listen to the bad things and think they are right! – The oldest chef said. – You can see Princess Hou Lei is much better than many other Princesses and daughters of the bureaucrats. Anyone of them can cook well like her, anyone of them can take care of the Prince when he got an injury? I think that the most different of Princess Hou Lei from other ladies in this palace is her characteristics. You can see that she seems not to care about the power and level, just like our Third Prince. She is beautiful but not selfish, you can hear about the good things she did when she went to the South Province when the typhoon passed through there.

-I agree with you, Mr. Lee. – Another chef said. – We can’t find out another Princess like her. She is very kind-hearted. You can see the way she treats us and the other maids, soldiers. That’s not like the way the other Princess treats their servants.

-That’s enough, don’t be concerned much about the royal family’s life. – The oldest continued. – And should careful with your words, they can make you get punished.

Hou Lei and Tian Liam walked back to her room. She opened the door and they got into the room. He put the tray of food on the table and sat down next to her.

-Well, can I eat now? – He asked.

-Why not? – She wondered. – I cooked for you, why you ask me that?

-Should I keep the cool image of a Prince anymore? – He laughed.

-Tian Liam, you don’t need to keep the cool image in front of me! Spend that for the other ladies around there, they would shout loudly each time you smile with them.

-Okay. – He fetched a sigh. – So that means you haven’t forgiven me yet?

-What makes you think that? – She put food into his bowl. – If I still get angry with you, I’ll cook for you and … don’t let you “do” that!

-I already know your answer. – He smiled and picked her food into his mouth.

They had their dinner happily together. After that, he brought the dishes back to the kitchen while she was tidying the room ready for them to go to bed.

The next day, Tian Liam went to meet the Emperor for discussing some works. Hou Lei watered the garden and got back into her room. She brought out the book of Hou Ma tribe to read and find some information she needed. The book contained many spells she had not known and a lot of information. After reading some pages, there was a page written about the calculation of the “most Hou day”, the day that Hou Ma magic could have its most powerful effect. She read the page carefully and calculated the day she needed it. Luckily, that day was almost three months from today.

She continued to read the book and found a spell that could capture someone into a Hou Ma space, where only Hou Ma people could see that person and no one else could. She thought that she could not kill the Emperor in the palace because there were many people here. Besides, his body had the power of the royal family which could protect him from Hou Ma magic. This spell might be a good choice to make him answer about the Hou Ma gem.

“The Queen is coming!”, a sentry announced.

Hou Lei rapidly hid the book behind her bed and opened the door to meet the Queen.

-My Queen! – She greeted the Queen. – I’m preparing to go to greet you.

-My sweet, just get in, I have something to talk with you! – The Queen said. – All the maids get out and don’t let anyone corrupt us.

The maid left and closed the door, two of them stood in front of the door as the command of the Queen. Hou Lei led the Queen to sit on a chair and pour some tea for the Queen.

-Mother, you have something important to talk with me?

-Yup, next week will be the birthday of the Emperor, last year we had many things so your Father did not place a party. This year is his 55th birthday, so I want to do something special for him.

-What can I help you?

-Well, I hope you could help me to prepare some of the food and tea for the high-leveled bureaucrats. I think that your food will be more special than the food of the chefs in the royal kitchen, and your tea is something that’s worth to be tasted once in a lifetime.

-Of course, I can do that for you, please tell me how many bureaucrats will attend the ceremony and what kind of food you want me to cook.

-There might be around 20 bureaucrats and you can cook whatever you want, however, those dishes shouldn’t be too normal, just ask the chefs to prepare ingredients for you and ask them if you need their help too. But that’s not my main idea to get here today.

-I understand, mother! What do you want me to do anymore, please feel free to tell me?

-I need a grandchild, Hou Lei! – The Queen held her hand. – You and Tian Liam have been married for almost two years, your family life is also happy and no big argument, why until now, you still don’t have pregnant? I and your father worried about you two. Is your husband and wife's life good?

-It’s normal, mother, but I don’t know why, too. – Hou Lei shyly replied.

-Don’t worry, if you have problems, you can ask me and the royal doctors for advice.

-Please give me some more time, mother. Everything is okay!

-Okay, I have here something for you and Tian Liam. – The Queen pointed at some packs she has brought with her. – Ask the maid extract for you these, they will help you maintain your health and easier to get pregnant. And those for Tian Liam, they will have him more powerful and stronger in that work. Hope to receive your good news soon.

-Thank you, mother! – Hou Lei received the packs with an emotionless face.
