PART 50 - THE DOUBT OF THE EMPEROR_2

-I don’t know too, my Emperor, I think that she is very strange. Maybe, but it’s just my guess. I don’t blame her for that. However, that was still a strange thing, and the Soldier General couldn’t investigate about that assassin.

-I also feel something strange about that. So what you want to suggest to me?

-We can investigate the Princess, maybe she doesn’t seem to be as what she showed us. We can send some soldiers to the West Land to ask people there about the Princess and we’ll know if she is exactly as what she does here.

-Well, that seems to be a good idea, I also want to know more about Hou Lei. She seems to be not a normal Princess as we always know.

A group of trustworthy soldiers was asked to meet the Emperor and the Minister in the main palace.  The Minister gave them some of the gold and said.

-This is the budget for you to come to the West Land to finish a mission for our Emperor!

-We will do as best as we can, my Emperor! – The leader of the soldiers said.

-Okay, I want you to investigate all the information about Princess Hou Lei, her characteristics, her life before coming here. – The Emperor said. – And you also know, don’t let the Princess and the Third Prince know about your mission.

-We’re clear, my Emperor.

The soldiers got out of the Palace. When they came out of the main entrance, they passed Tian Liam and his sentries coming back from some duties in the royal city. He realized they were the trustworthy soldiers of the Minister.

-So strange, why many soldiers of the Minister come to the Palace and leave in a hurry?

He asked himself and saw a box with the royal signal, he thought that had to contain some of the gold there. And this mission of the soldiers might be related to the Emperor and of course, suggested by the Minister, the one who always got suspicious at everyone.

Tian Liam then came to Hou Lei’s room to check her status, he opened the door lightly. While taking care of her, Ah Jiang saw him and greeted.

-My Prince! – Ah Jiang said with a low voice.

-How is she now? – He came closer to her bed.

-The doctor’s just checked her health, nothing to worry. I’ve given her a bowl of gruel and she now takes a rest. – The maid replied.

-Okay, you can leave now, I’ll be here with her.

He sat down on a chair next to her bed, looked at her gently.

-I shouldn’t get an argument with you yesterday, and I should take you back to your room, you wouldn’t get a faint on the way back without me. Sorry!

-It’s not your fault! – She opened her eyes and replied.

-Oh, sorry, I made you wake up?

-You talked too much, Tian Liam, I just want to take a nap.

-Sorry, I’ll get out for you to get peace to sleep.

-Not necessary, you woke me up and go out? – She sat up.

-Are you okay? You’re still weak! – He helped her.

-The doctor said that “nothing to worry”, okay, don’t need to take care of me too much like a child.

-I’m worried about my wife’s health. – He gently smiled.

-Thank you…

-For what? I didn’t do anything.

-For caring about me, you’re right, I’m almost lonely in this palace, but you are always by my side, taking care of me and… loving me. – She paused for a while. – Don’t say anything. I don’t want you to pour honey into my ears.

They both laughed. He stayed there with her for the evening and had his dinner with her. They did not talk much, kept the silence between to look at each other and felt their heartbeats.

The soldiers started their journey to the West Land to collect information about Hou Lei to the Emperor and the Minister. After one day and a half, they reached West Land. The soldiers disguised as normal people. They got into the main city of West Land, asking people about Princess Hou Lei. There were many different answers.

“Princess Hou Lei had very bad behaviors to others, especially the low-level people”.

“Princess Hou Lei is very beautiful, and that’s all I know about her.”

“Princess Hou Lei doesn’t know anything except wearing luxurious dresses and walking around the city, looking at poor people on the street with heartless eyes.”

“Princess Hou Lei doesn’t know anything good, she only plays with the people in her palace, her father loves her much, so in her eyes, the people of West Land are worth nothing”.

“Princess Hou Lei loves to watch flowers, buy nice dresses and other accessories that a Princess needs. She doesn’t know about how to work anything, or better to say, she is a brainless Princess.”

“Princess Hou Lei one time ran out of the palace to follow her lover, suddenly she came back after that and accepted to be sent to the Main Land”.

The spell of Hou Lei made her become the Princess of West Land, but it could change people’s mind about the real one, a brainless and useless Princess. There were some people mentioning about her run away with her lover. That seemed to be the most precious information the soldiers get. After a day, they collected and chose what they should inform the Emperor. That night, the soldiers left West Land and returned to the Main Land. On the way, a mysterious lady in a pink dress with a mask appeared in front of them and stopped the horses.

-Who are you? – The leader of the soldiers asked. – How dare you to stop us?

-You don’t need to know who I am, because you will soon forget all about this. – The lady said and brought out a vial of a shining green liquid.

She opened the cover of the vial and the liquid evaporated into gas coming out. It spread in the air and reached to the soldiers.

-Don’t breathe the gas! – The leader said. – It may contain toxic.

-Just try your best. – The lady laughed. – This isn’t a drug or something like that. You should remember what I’m going to say well. First, Hou Lei is a good Princess, she cares about her people in the West Land. She loves her family and her country much. Second, she is good at many things, cooking, playing the zither, making poets, and taking care of others. Third, she had no lover until she was sent to the Main Land.

After saying that, the lady in pink dress waved her hands like a strange dance and a wave of pink dust coming out of her body. The dust flew across the air and touched the soldiers. They fell down to the ground and the lady chanted a spell as making them not knowing that they had met her and all the things she said about the Princess of West Land were true. Then she walked out of their way and to another direction. The morning came and the soldiers woke up, they did not know why they had slept on the road without any memory about last night.
